HOUSTON – A five-run rally by Houston Baptist in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday lifted the Huskies to a 5-3 win over the Prairie View A&M Panthers.

After having little success getting to PVAMU starting pitcher Edward Robledo, the Huskies loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. After a groundout, Brandon Brintz drew a bases-loaded, RBI walk before Justin Monsour knocked a two-RBI single to tie the game; HBU's game-winning run scored on the same play due to an error.

The Panthers fell to 6-17 with the loss. Houston Baptist, the defending Southland Conference champion, improved to 12-13 with the win.

Prairie View A&M seemed to be in control of the game after scoring three in the top of the seventh inning. The first three Panthers reached base before Josh Jefferson was hit by a pitch with one out, allowing Shannon Washington to score from third base.

The next hitter for the Panthers, Cody Den Beste, hit a groundball fielder's choice to score Darrien Williams. PVAMU's third run came Josh Wells scored while Den Beste was caught in a rundown before being caught stealing.

Wells went 2-for-3 in the game for the Panthers. Robledo took the loss for the Panthers in spite of allowing only two hits through the first seven innings. He pitched a total of seven and two-thirds innings, striking out three batters while allowing four earned runs.

Matt Harding picked up the win in relief for the Huskies. Dylan Zarosky pitched a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two batters, en route to the save.

The Panthers return to action Saturday when they welcome Wiley College to Tankersley Field for the first of two games this weekend. Saturday's game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
