BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern Jaguars scored nine runs in the second inning Saturday to highlight a 16-5 win over visiting Prairie View A&M in seven innings.
Dondrayas Harris knocked four RBIs and Franky Montesino drove in three runs to help lift Southern (10-21) into fourth place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference's West Division standings with a league record of 5-11.
Josh Wells went 3-for-3 with an RBI, while
Shannon Washington and
Darrien Williams also knocked RBIs for the Panthers (10-20, 4-12 SWAC).
Starting pitcher J'Markus George pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs while striking out four batters for Southern to earn the win.
Charles Philpott was charged for eight earned runs in only one and one-thirds innings for the Panthers to take the loss.
Edward Robledo pitched the final four and two-thirds innings for Prairie View A&M.
Prairie View A&M and Southern conclude their series Sunday, with the finale game scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time.
