PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas. – The Prairie View A&M University women's basketball team fell to Alabama State 75-61 in their Monday matchup at the William J. Nicks "Baby Dome."
Alexus Parker led the Lady Panthers with 15 points and six rebounds, connecting on 5-of-5 from the line.
Tori Carter totaled 14 points, three rebounds, and three assists, two blocks and one steal, while
Jeronia Allen posted 10 points with two rebounds and four assists.
Alabama State took an early lead (11-6) at the 5:57 mark of the first quarter. The Lady Panthers forced some big turnovers and
La'Sha Haynes jumper, combined with
Dominique Newman and Carter's layup's pushed PVAMU to a one-point lead 14-13 with 2:17 left in the quarter.
Prairie View continued to play tight defense into the second quarter, but an Alabama State run gave them a 34-25 halftime.
A Newman three-pointer followed by Allen's back-to-back jumpers opened up the second half strong for the Lady Panthers cutting the deficit to two at 36-34. The Panthers stayed close and trailed 46-42 after three.
However, a run by ASU allowed them to pull away.
Prairie View A&M returns to action on Saturday at Texas Southern at 5:30 p.m.
