LORMAN, Miss. – The Prairie View A&M University men's basketball team lost at Alcorn State 66-55 Wednesday night the Davey Whitney Complex.
In his first start of the season,
Tevin Bellinger led the Panthers with a season-high 14 points. J.D. Wallace had a season-high nine rebounds to along with four points, two blocks and two steals. PVAMU got strong contributions off the bench as well, with
Troy Thompson scoring nine points and
Avery Lomax eight.
There were four ties and five lead changes in the game. The Panthers trailed 23-22 at halftime before taking the lead early in the second half. As part of a 10-2 run late in the first half and ending early in the second, Prairie View A&M took its largest lead of the contest. A pair of free throws by Bellinger put the Panthers in front, 24-23 to open the second half.
Daquan Cook scored five straight points as the Prairie View A&M took a 29-25 lead early in the second half.
However, a run by Alcorn State gave the Braves the lead for good.
Prairie View A&M will open its home SWAC schedule Saturday against Texas Southern at 5 p.m. in the William J. Nicks Babydome. Panther fans are encouraged to wear PVAMU purple and gold to the game. Tickets are available online at www.pvpanthers.com/pvhoops.
