PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M University women's basketball team is ready to host their first Southwestern Athletic Conference home matchup on Saturday when they welcome in-state rival Texas Southern to the William J. Nicks Babydome at 3 p.m. Â

"We prep the same way for every game regardless of who our opponent is on the schedule," said PVAMU head coach
Ravon Justice. "We just try to come and make sure we know our opponent, so it's pretty much another game on the schedule for us."

PVAMU and TSU will meet for the 70
th meeting between the two teams. The Lady Tigers lead the series by a narrow 38-31 margin. Prairie View has won three of the last six home contest since 2011. Texas Southern won last year's contest 50-43 at the "Babydome" on February 6, 2016. In contests played at PV the series is knotted 16-16.

"It's always exciting to play at home, and playing your rival brings a little bit excitement to the table," Justice said. "You're always comfortable at home and we are real excited to be back playing at home."

Senior
Alexus Parker leads the Lady Panthers averaging 15.2 points per game, which ranks fourth among Southwestern Athletic Conference players. Parker shoots 40 percent from the field, 30 percent from around the arc and 69 percent from the free throw line. She also averages 6.4 rebounds per contest, marking her second on the team.

Junior
La'Sha Haynes is another key component for the Lady Panthers lineup. Haynes is PV's and the SWAC's leading rebounder averaging 7.9 per contest and 5.4 ppg. Freshman
Dominique Newman is a player to watch Newman leads the Lady Panthers from beyond the arc line with 27 made 3-pointers to rank fourth in the SWAC. She is currently the fourth leading scorer averaging 10.6 points per game.

Tori Carter is the Lady Panthers second leading scorer averaging 14.2Â (7
th in the SWAC), she leads the team in assists averaging 4.5 (1
st in the SWAC) and also in steals (2.0) with 26 (7
th in the SWAC) on the year.

"We don't look at numbers. We feel like if we put in the work the results will come" said Justice. "TSU is playing unbelievable right now. Coach Johnetta Hayes-Perry is doing a great job and she's going to have her kids up and ready to play. They have already won two SWAC games so they are going to come in here with confidence and it's our job to protect to home court."
