PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – With just four matches remaining in the regular season, the Prairie View A&M University soccer team gets set for a pair of home tilts this weekend in getting ready for the Southwestern Athletic Conference postseason tournament.
The Lady Panthers will enter this weekend's contest with a 3-6-1 overall record, and 3-2-1 in conference play. They are currently fifth in the standings as they prepare for home matchups with Mississippi Valley on Friday at 7 p.m. and Alcorn on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
"I am looking forward to both these matchups," said PVAMU head soccer coach
Abe Garcia. "I think after last weekend's games, we are right were we need to be in order to remain or move up in the standings. We had a good win against UAPB, and tied with Grambling, which is a game that I thought we had in the bag. It was a little frustrating, but we still have to go out there and play the game. We have regrouped and are ready to move on from here and hopefully get two wins out of this weekend's contests."
The Lady Panthers come into Friday's affair against Mississippi Valley (4-8-1, 2-2-1 SWAC) after defeating Ark. Pine Bluff 1-0 and tying with Grambling 3-3 in double-overtime on Sunday.
Miss. Valley (4-8-1, 2-2-1 SWAC) tied in their last contest 0-0 at Jackson State after defeating Southern on Friday 7-0 in Baton Rouge. Valley is currently in sixth place in the standings behind Prairie View.
Alcorn has a 2-5-0, 1-3-0 in the SWAC, before playing Texas Southern on Friday are sitting in ninth place in the conference. The Lady Braves lost their last two contests to both Howard (1-0) and Jackson State (2-1).
We are asking all fans to wear pink all weekend in support of breast cancer awareness. All fans that aren't able to attend the game will be able to view the games via pvpanthers.com.
