MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Prairie View A&M University volleyball team opened the SWAC East Roundup Friday morning falling to Alabama A&M 3-0 in Montgomery, Ala., at the Acadome
Later in their second match of the day, the Lady Panthers fell in a close matchup 3-1 to Mississippi Valley by the scores of 22-25, 25-17, 24-26, and 22-25.
In their first match PVAMU fell by the scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-12. Freshman middle blocker Victoria Pearson led the way for the Lady Panthers, posting eight kills on 13 attempts. Sophomore Larissa Martinez finished with five kills.
Both setters for the Lady Panthers, sophomore Erica Jimenez and junior Mykaeli Franklin each dished out 11 assists apiece, Franklin also contributed nine digs to lead PVAMU.
In the second match, Martinez led both teams with a season high 17 kills. Pearson added nine kills, one service ace, five digs, and two block assists. Jimenez led the Lady Panthers with 22 assists, while Franklin dished out 19.
The Lady Panthers had three ladies to finish in double-digit numbers in digs. Junior Christen Augustine posted 17, while Franklin had 15 and freshman Tatierra Johnson tallied 11.
Prairie View A&M will return to action tomorrow, when they take on host team Alabama State at 10 a.m. and later face Jackson State for a 7 p.m. match up.
