PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M University volleyball team was defeated by Texas Southern 3-1 Thursday night at the William J. Nicks Building.
Set scores were 25-23, 19-25, 18-25, and 15-25.
The Lady Tigers stormed out in the first set, but it was the Lady Panthers that bounced back to take set one.
The balanced offense was led by junior
Latrice Brown with 10 kills, hitting .381. Junior
Mykaeli Franklin dished out 20 assists and sophomore
Erica Jimenez recorded 13 assists. Junior Christen Augustine had 10 digs, while freshman Tatierra Johnson also tallyied 10 and Jimenez had eight.
The second set was a set that saw the Lady Panthers hit their best knocking down 13 kills and hitting a .429 percentage as a team with just one error, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Tigers took set two.
In between the second and third sets the Lady Panthers presented commemorations to the family of former Prairie View A&M's former assistant volleyball coach Emil Chuidian, who passed away recently.
The teams returned to the floor, but it was Texas Southern who clinched the 3-1 victory with wins in the third and fourth sets.
The Lady Panthers return to the court on Monday when they face SWAC opponent UAPB for at 6:30 match up at the William J. Nicks Babydome.
