Prairie View A&M is coming off a season-opening stretch of three games in six days in three different states, playing Nov. 10 at Utah, Nov. 13 at Oregon, and Nov. 15 at UNLV. The games at Oregon and UNLV were a part of the MGM Main Events Tournament, with PVAMU continuing play in the Middleweight Bracket tomorrow and on Wednesday, where the Panthers will face either Georgia State or Eastern Washington.
Â
"We've taken the last few days to continue to get better," said PVAMU head coach
Byron Smith. "Our focus will always be the same – strong emphasis on our mental approach and preparation. We've worked on giving great effort and execution on the things we need to do as a team. Our transition defense was pretty good for a while in the first two games, but we did not meet our expectations in the last game against UNLV (season-high 23 points allowed)."
Â
Eastern Kentucky opened the season with a road win at Rice (73-72) and road loss at Ole Miss (85-75) in games in the Tournament before posting a home win over Kentucky State (97-66) Thursday.
Â
"EKU has one of the better inside-out post players in Nick Mayo," Smith said. "He will be a very tough guard for us. They have a very solid unit who I expect to play under control with a strong emphasis on sharing the ball and taking high percentage shots. It's a tough challenge for us, but it's a team we match up well against. I expect us to really get after them on Monday."
