EDINBURG, Texas – The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team was defeated by the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 72-62 in Saturday's mid-afternoon contest during the Feast of Sharing Tournament hosted by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
Â
"Our kids gave a great effort," PVAMU head women's basketball coach Ravon Justice said. "We played slow in the first quarter, but we've got to be able to put together a solid 40 minutes and four quarters. We have not been doing that in the last couple of games. I feel like we will have a better start tomorrow."
Â
Shala Dobbins led both teams with 21 points, adding three rebounds and five steals. Jordyn Penniman posted 17 points, with three assists and three steals for PVAMU, while teammate Dominique Newman totaled seven points, five boards, three assists and six steals.
Â
The team will continue play in the Feast of Sharing Tournament when the Lady Panthers face host team UTRGV for a 3 p.m. tip.
