GRAMBLING, La. – The Prairie View A&M University women's basketball team lost in overtime at Grambling State 60-55 Monday night in the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
Tori Carter scored 18 points and added three rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Lady Panthers (8-16, 3-9).
Dominique Newman scored 13 points and
Jeronia Allen added 10 points, eight boards, and two assists off the bench for Prairie View A&M.
Tough first-half defense propelled the Lady Panthers to a 27-16 halftime lead, holding the first-place Tigers (12-12, 10-3) to 7-for-27 shooting in the first 20 minutes.
After Grambling St. took a 38-37 lead after three periods, there were three ties and three lead changes in the fourth. An 8-0 run midway during the quarter put Prairie View A&M back in the lead. A layup by Parker, combined with back-to-back layups by Carter gave the Lady Panthers the lead. A jumper by
La'Sha Haynes, who had a team-high nine rebounds, gave PVAMU a 47-42 lead with just over four minutes remaining. However, GSU scored six of the next seven points to force overtime.

Valley State in the Pink Out Game and next Monday, Feb. 20 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader on Greek Night.
