SWAC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS UNDERWAY  The first championship event of 2017 is underway as the Southwestern Athletic Conference will crown men's and women's champions in indoor track and field in Birmingham, Ala.

The Crossplex is again the site for the league's indoor title meet. The PVAMU men finished second in the SWAC Cross Country Championship in October, with the Lady Panthers finishing third.

FORMER PANTHER HAISLEY PROJECTED TO START FOR ARIZONA IN IFL Former Prairie View A&M football player Glen Haisley is a projected starter for the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League.
 
Haisley, who signed with the Rattlers in October, started eight games on the offensive line for Panther football in 2015, the nation's highest scoring offense. His father, Glen Sr., also played for the Rattlers in 1992 in the Arena Football League.
 
BASEBALL OPENS SEASON IN MLB INVITATIONAL Panther baseball is set to open the 2017 season in the Major League Baseball Urban Invitational this weekend in New Orleans.
PVAMU will face Illinois-Chicago Friday in a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m., Alcorn State Saturday at 2 p.m. and the University of New Orleans Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
The radio broadcast for all four games can be heard here on  pvpanthers.com. Saturday's game will also be televised on MLB Network.
 
This will be the fourth appearance in the Invitational for the Panthers, and the second straight under second-year head coach Auntwan Riggins, who has 17 returning players and 18 newcomers from last year's team.
 
SOFTBALL TO PLAY TWO AT HBU SATURDAY The Prairie View A&M University softball team will play at Houston Baptist Saturday afternoon. 
 
The Lady Panthers opened the season last weekend with four games in the Louisiana-Monroe Tournament. Among the contests, PVAMU held leads against Sam Houston State and Northwestern State before losing both games by a combined three runs.
 
19th-RANKED BOWLING TEAM AT SWAC EAST ROUNDUP The 19th ranked Prairie View A&M University bowling team returns to conference play this weekend in the SWAC East Roundup in D'Iberville, Miss.
 
The Lady Panthers finished 10th out of 24 teams in last weekend's Sam Houston St. Tournament. PVAMU will enter this week's second league event tied for first place with a 10-2 record but holding the first-place tiebreaker over Texas Southern by virtue of having the most total pins from the January roundup.
 
This weekend's events will determine opening round matchups for the SWAC Bowling Championship Tournament March 24-26 in Arlington, Texas.

Baseball will open its home schedule Tuesday in a 2 p.m. game against Incarnate Word. Softball will open its home schedule Friday, March 24 against Mississippi Valley State at the newly renovated PVAMU Softball Field.
 
CLASS OF 2016 SPORTS HALL OF FAME INDUCTION FRIDAY, MARCH 24 The newest class of enshrines into the Prairie View A&M University Sports Hall of Fame will be inducted during ceremonies on Friday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Willie A. Tempton, Sr. Memorial Student Center Ballroom located on the PVAMU Campus.
 
This class of Prairie View A&M legends includes the 2009 SWAC Champion football team, the 2006 SWAC Champion volleyball team, Samuel Barner (football), Catherine Burnley (soccer), and Marvalyn Judge (basketball/softball/cheerleader).

WOMEN'S, MEN'S TENNIS TEAMS IN ACTION IN DALLAS AREA The PVAMU women's and men's teams return to action in the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex.
 
The Lady Panthers will play at Texas Arlington Friday at 2 p.m., and then will face Oral Roberts Saturday in a 2 p.m. match which will be played at Texas Arlington. The Lady Panthers posted their first win last Friday, a 6-1 victory of Texas Permian Basin.
 
The men's team will face Oral Roberts Saturday at 10 a.m. in a match played at Texas Arlington. Later on Saturday, the Panthers will play at SMU at 4:30 p.m. Prairie View A&M will conclude the weekend Sunday in a 2 p.m. match at Texas Arlington.
 
BASKEBALL RETURNS HOME FOR PINK OUT, GREEK NIGHT GAMES For the first time since January 30, the Panther basketball teams will play at home in the William J. Nicks Babydome. Saturday, PVAMU will face Mississippi Valley State in a 3 p.m. doubleheader in the Pink Out Game. Monday, Prairie View A&M will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader on Greek Night.
 
Saturday's festivities begin with a 1 p.m. Pep Rally outside the Babydome on the west side of the building.
Saturday's games begin a key stretch of games to conclude the regular season, as both Panther teams will play four of the final six contests at home. Both teams are in eighth place in the SWAC Standings, looking to maintain and improve their seeds for the upcoming SWAC Tournament which begins Tuesday, March 7.
 
In a the new Toyota SWAC Basketball Tournament format, only the top 8 teams in the standings will qualify for the tournament, with the top four seeds hosting first-round games on Tuesday, March 7, with the semifinals and finals in Houston's Toyota Center on March 10-11.
