Softball Picks Up First Win

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 HOUSTON, Texas– The Prairie View A&M University softball team opened their doubleheader with a win over Houston Baptist 9-3 in the early game, but then lost in its second game 6-0 on Saturday at Husky Field.

Game 1: PVAMU 9, HBU 3
In the third frame PVAMU brought out the bats. Destinee Williams (3-4, 2 RBI) singled to right field to open the inning for PV. Williams stole second before Laurisa Hernandez (2-3, 4 RBI) tripled to center field scoring Williams. Kylar Ward- Flowers also singled up the middle scoring Hernandez. Shortstop Alyssa Garcia was walked advancing Ward-Flowers to second.

After a pitching change Amanda Ford sacrifice bunt advanced both Garcia and Ward-Flowers. Kelsey Coronado (1-3, RBI) singled through the right side scoring Ward-Flowers and advancing Garcia to third. Coronado advanced to second on a wild pitch, while Briana Knowles reached base on a FC bunt advanced to second. Coronado advanced to third, after Garcia was called out at third by the third baseman. Shelby Williams (1-3) reached first on a base on balls, as well as Keona Hunter (1 RBI) both loading the base, but not before scoring Coronado.

In the fourth, D. Williams singled through the left side and advanced to second on the throw. Hunter advanced to third, S. Williams and Knowles both scored. Hernandez singled to center field, scoring D. Williams and K. Hunter to extend the lead.

Game 2 - HBU 6, PVAMU 0
The Lady Panthers were shutout in game two. Although the ladies were shutout S. Williams was 2-4, while Hunter went 3-4 were able to get hits. Daneisha Hinton and Tianna Thomas both went 1-3 and Ward-Flowers went 1-2 in the evening game for PVAMU.

The Lady Panthers will return to the field Friday in the Abilene Christian Tournament to face Northern Colorado at 3 p.m
