Women's Basketball Look to Continue Win Streak; Men Look to Bounce Back

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Prairie View A&M University women's basketball team has won their last three contest, including Saturday's 63-50 win on the road against Alabama A&M. The men's team will look to return to the win column in doubleheader action against Alabama State.

The women's game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The men's game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m. with both games being broadcast on KPVU 91.3 FM.

The Lady Panthers enter Monday's contest 11-16 overall and 6-9 in the SWAC. Saturday against AAMU, PVAMU was led in scoring by Dominique Newman with her third 20 point game. Alexus Parker leads the team in scoring averaging 15.4 ppg and is fourth in the league. She had 16 points in the contest, while Tori Carter scored 14 points and is eighth in scoring in the conference.

The contest against Alabama State is vital to the Lady Panther's standings. A win will determine if they stay in seventh place. Alabama State (11-14, 10-5) is in fourth after falling to Texas Southern 55-50.

On the men's side, the Panthers dropped an 87-74 game to Alabama A&M. Tevin Bellinger scored a team high of 19 points, and is averaging 11.7 ppg. Troy Thompson scored 17 points in the contest, while Zachary Hamilton scored 12. Hamilton is fifth in the league is scoring averaging 15 ppg.

PVAMU is tied for fifth a win Monday and a loss by Jackson State and Grambling can very well move them to fourth place.

The teams will return home for their final regular season home contest against Southern and Alcorn State. The contest against Southern is set for a 5:30 tip on Thursday March 2 for White-Out Night. Saturday's game against Alcorn is slated as Senior Night/Fan Appreciation. This game will tip off at 3 p.m.
