Montgomery, Ala.- The PVAMU men's basketball team defeated Alabama State University 77-58 on Monday night's contest at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

Four Panthers scored in double figures, as
Tevin Bellinger scored 20 points,
Zachary Hamilton added 17 points,
Ja'Donta Blakley finished with 13 points, and
Troy Thompson chipped in 12 points.

The first half of the contest was extremely competitive and highly contested,as there were three ties and six lead changes. A Bellinger three-pointer tied the game at 20 apiece with 10:48 remaining in the first half. ASU would later take a 28-22 lead with 6:32 left, but the Panthers would battle back, going on a 12-0 run to finish the first half, capped off by a Hamilton three- pointer. At the end of the first 20 minutes of action PVAMU led 34-28.

The Panthers started the second half strong, taking a double digit lead for the first time of the game, as Thompson buried a three pointer with 16:59 left in the contest. PVAMU would then break the game open taking a 57-42 over Alabama State with 9:46 left on a Blakley layup. The Hornets wouldn't get any closer, as the Purple and Gold led by as many as 23 points as the game wounded down.

The Panthers return to the hardwood for action on March 2nd to take on Southern University at the William J. Nicks Arena in Prairie View, Texas. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm with a live radio broadcast from 91.3 KPVU FM
