The Prairie View A&M University women's basketball team was defeated 74-61 by the Alabama State Lady Hornets.

Alexus Parker led PVAMU with 25 points on 56 percent shooting.
Tori Carter added 17 points and 5 assists in 39 minutes of action.

The Lady Panthers got off to a strong start, leading by five with 5:53 left in the first quarter, as Carter and Parker scored the Panthers first 10 points of the contest. The final five minutes of the opening quarter featured two ties and two lead changes. After the first quarter, the Lady Hornets led 19-15.

PVAMU took a 21-20 advantage on a
Dominique Newman three pointer with 7:47 left in the first half. The game remained close as neither team was able to take a lead of more than five points. Carter drained a pair of free throws from the charity stripe to give the Panthers a one point lead with 15 seconds left in the 2nd quarter, but a last second shot by Elisiah Jones gave ASU a 40-38 lead going into halftime.

The Purple and Gold started the second half slow, as the Lady Hornets went on a 7-2 run. The Lady Panthers would show some grit, as they battled back. After a Carter layup, the ASU advantage was cut to 47-46 with 5:36 left in the quarter. The Lady Panthers went cold from the floor, ASU took advantage outscoring PVAMU 10-2 in the final minutes of the 3rd period. After three quarters of action PVAMU trailed 57-48.

PVAMU spent the final quarter trying to mount a comeback, unfortunately the Panthers were unable to convert opportunities to score, as the Alabama State advantage swelled to as much as 15 points in the 4th quarter. The Lady Panthers were able to reduce the lead to eight points with 2:03 left thanks to a Parker layup, but would get no closer.

The Lady Panthers return to action Thursday March 2nd against Southern, for the first game in a two game home stand. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm with a live radio broadcast on 91.3 KPVU FM. This not is slated for white-out night and are asking all fans to wear white.
