PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Prairie View A&M University baseball team rallied to take a 12-9 win at Arkansas-Pine Bluff Saturday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
The Panthers (18-29 overall, 11-10 SWAC) posted back-to-back series wins for the first time this season, as every PVAMU starter had at least one hit in the 19-hit attack, led by
Avery Williams' four-hit game with three runs scored.
Jalyn Baker had three hits, and
Corbin Jamison,
Carson Lee,
Steven Williams,
Kevin Macias, and
Kaylor Lewis eac had two hits, with Jamison and
Steven Williams each with three RBI.
Charles Philpott (4-2) got the win in relief, pitching 7+innings, allowing five hits, four runs with three walks and six strikeouts.
Jordan Foster ended a late UAPB rally to earn his second save.
Trailing 5-3 after three innings, Prairie View A&M took the lead for good in the fourth. Lewis led off with a double to right field. With one out, Jamison singled to left, scoring Lewis, and advanced to second on an error.
Avery Williams then reached on an infield single. Den Beste then singled to center field, scoring Jamison. With two outs,
Steven Williams singled through the right side, scoring
Avery Williams for a 6-5 Panther lead.
In the fifth, Macias led off with a single to left field before Lewis reached on an error.
Tyler Gordon then singled through the right side, advancing Lewis to third as Macias was thrown out as home plate. Jamison then doubled to left center, scoring both Lewis and Gordon to extend the lead to 8-5.
Leading 8-6 in the ninth, the Panthers added four runs all with two out. After Jamison reached on a fielder's choice,
Avery Williams reached on an infield single, before Den Beste was intentionally walked to load the bases. Lee then reached on a throwing error, scoring Jamison and
Avery Williams.
Steven Williams then singled to left field, scoring Den Beste and Lee.
