MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In the opening game of day two of the 2017 SWAC Softball Tournament, the Prairie View A&M University Lady Panthers defeated Mississippi Valley, 5-3 in an elimination game at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to an early lead in the game and did not let up to advance to day three of competition in the tournament.  PVAMU will play the loser of Thursday's Alabama State  Texas Southern game Friday at 9 a.m.  Fans can listen live on pvpanthers.com/sportsnetwork.

In the first frame the Lady Panthers placed two runs on the board as Shelby Williams landed on first with a walk.  On a throwing error, Briana Knowles reached base and advanced to third as Williams came across the plate.  Kylar Ward-Flowers' infield single to the shortstop scored Knowles to make the score 2-0.

The momentum carried over into frame two as Amanda Ford struck a single up the middle, before Williams' bunt single advanced Ford to second.  Knowles also reached base on a bunt single loading the bases.  On a passed ball, Ford scored. Williams then crossed home plate on a groundout for a 4-0 PVAMU lead.

After the Devillettes scored three runs in the top of the fourth, the Lady Panthers scored in their half of the fourth.
