NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Prairie View A&M baseball team lost its SWAC Tournament opener to Alabama St. 13-5 Wednesday afternoon at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
The Panthers (18-36) scored two runs in the first inning.
Avery Williams led off with a single, and scored on a double down the line by
Corbin Jamison.
Cody Den Beste's single off the glove of the first baseman and into right field scored Jamison for a 2-0 lead.
Trailing 7-2 after five innings, PVAMU rallied in the sixth.
Carson Lee and
Steven Williams led off with singles. With two outs, Kevin Macais struck out swinging but reached first on a wild pitch to load the bases.
Tyler Gordon then singled up the middle to score Lee.

Steven Williams to cut the deficit to 7-4 but Prairie View A&M could get no closer.
The Panthers added their final run in the eighth on an RBI single by Jamison, scoring Gordon.
Steven Williams went 3-for-5 to lead the 12-hit attack.
Avery Williams, Jamison, Den Beste, and Gordon each had two hits for Prairie View A&M, which will play Thursday at noon in an elimination game against the loser of Grambling – Alcorn State.
