HOUSTON – After twice being delayed by Hurricane Harvey, the Prairie View A&M University volleyball team finally opened the 2017 season, losing at Houston Baptist 3-0.
 
The Lady Panthers lost by the scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-12. Prairie View shook off what looked to be some early jitters, tying the game several times over the course of the opening set, before the Huskies took the first set 25-16.
 
In the second set, the Lady Panthers flashed some outstanding defense to keep the game close.  PVAMU kept its composure, rallying to close the deficit to one at 20-19 before HBU (5-0) pulled away.
 
Mykaeli Franklin led the Lady Panthers with 17 assists and 10 digs. Christen Augustine had eight digs, and Taylor Goudeau and Larissa Martinez each had seven kills.
 
PVAMU volleyball will play its home opener next Tuesday, Sept. 12 against McNeese St. at 6:30 p.m. in the William J. Nicks Babydome.
