Basketball Teams Continue Homestand Against Miss. Valley

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M basketball teams will play their second straight home game Monday against Miss. Valley State in the William "Billy" J. Nicks Building.

 

Monday's doubleheader begins at 5:30 p.m. on PVAMU Faculty & Staff appreciation night. The doubleheader can be watched live online at pvpanthers.com/sportsnetwork.

 

The Prairie View A&M (5-12, 3-3 SWAC) won their third straight SWAC home contest, holding off a hungry Arkansas Pine Bluff team posting a 72-64 win.

 

Talisha Presley scored a PVAMU career-high of 17 points, while also adding three assists and one steal. Alexis Robinson added 14 points, going a perfect 5-5 from the field. Kendra Hicks registered her first double-double of with season with 11 points and 11 rebounds in just 13 minutes of play. The 11 rebounds was also a career high for Hicks.

 

The Mississippi Valley Deviletettes (0-18, 0-6 SWAC) have not been able to capture a win this season after falling at Texas Southern 55-39 on Saturday. 

 

In men's play, the Panthers (5-15, 2-4) will look to break a four-game losing streak, with all four defeats coming by single digits. In Saturday's 72-66 loss to SWAC leader Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Prairie View A&M nearly erased a 25-point first-half deficit, cutting the trailing margin to two points in the final minute.

 

Gary Blackston scored 22 of his career-high tying 27 points in the second half, and added eight rebounds, a career-high eight assists and three steals. Troy Thompson scored a season-high 15 points, and J.D. Wallace posted his third-straight 10 rebounds game with a game-high 13.

 

Mississippi Valley State (0-19, 0-6) is the only winless team in the SWAC this season.MVSU has played at BYU, Utah, Utah State, Oklahoma State, UNLV, and UAB among its non-conference schedule. The Delta Devils led by four at halftime before losing 91-77 at Texas Southern Saturday night.

 

Dante Scott is ninth in the SWAC in scoring (13.1) and sixth in 3-point field goal percentage (38.1). Jordan Evans (11.4) is 13th in scoring. Emanual Ejeh is tied for 7th in rebounding (5.6).
