PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M soccer team grabbed its third consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference victory Sunday afternoon taking down the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M 1-0 with an impressive defensive effort at the PVAMU Soccer Field.
"It was important that we got another big "W" today," said head PVAMU soccer coach
Sonia Curvelo. "I am very proud of how the team came out this weekend. I still feel like we have to continue improving on finishing our chances. I know that we got the 1-0 goal, but I felt like we should have at least gotten five goals. It's definitely showing growth within our team. I am enjoying watching our team play. I see all the things that we have been working on in training and we are seeing them in the game. At the end of the day, I am just happy how things turned out at the end."
In their last home game of the season, the Lady Panthers played with urgency as they outshot the Lady Bulldogs 12-4 and sealing the game with the only goal (1-0) of the contest.
Freshman forward
Kaelyn Carnahan scored her first collegiate goal in the 44
th minute of a rebound off the goalkeeper from a
Blair Lane shot.
The Lady Panthers defense shut down the Lady Bulldogs from that point on, allowing no goals despite the three attempts in the second half by the Alabama A&M offense.
Freshman goalkeeper
Quinn Josiah, who ranks second in the SWAC in saves heading into the match, had an easy day as she only had two saves both in the second half of play. The win marks her fourth shutout and fifth career win.
The win moves the Lady Panthers record to 3-1-1 in SWAC play this season and 5-7-1 overall. Prairie View A&M will return to action when they play at Grambling Friday at 4 p.m.
