Â
At the end of the first quarter, a pair of PVAMU students and military veterans will be honored on Military Appreciation Day. During halftime, 2018 SWAC Champion Men's Golf Coach
Kevin Jennings will be interviewed.
Â
Both teams are looking to bounce back from losses against Jackson State. Freshman QB
Trazon Connley nearly rallied the Panthers from a 24-point deficit, as he came off the bench at JSU and combined for 275 yards and four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing), including a career-long 72 yard scoring run. TE
Zarrian Holcombe caught a pair of touchdown passes and is tied for the SWAC lead in that category with seven.
Â
"I thought they came out with a lot enthusiasm and I thought they were flying around to the football having fun out there and continuing to learn," said PVAMU head coach
Eric Dooley of his team over the last two weeks. "The effort was there and that's what we're going to continue to harp upon."
Â
Alabama St. is also coming off a 20-2 loss to Jackson State last week. QB KHA'Darris Davis (724 yards, 6 TD), and Darryl Pearson Jr. (610 yards 2 TD) have shared time at the position, with Chris Scott seeing action last week. RB Ezra Gray leads the Hornets with 321 yards and two touchdowns. Tyrek Allen leads Alabama State in receiving yards (331) and receiving touchdowns (three). Defensively, Darron Johnson (69) and Kurron Ramsey (61) lead the team in tackles.
Â
"They have a pretty good defense," Dooley said. "For the most part, they have a pretty good front seven. They fly around to the football. They make some good plays and return a lot of guys. We know they are really going to be challenging on defense. Offensively, they still have the weapons...They played a couple of quarterbacks in the last game, but I still look for a great challenge. I know (Head Coach) Donald Hill-Eley and his staff, and I know they will be prepared to play on Saturday."
