The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team will complete its Texas swing Saturday in a 2 p.m. game at Lamar.
Â
The contest, which will be video streamed online at ESPN3.com, will be the third game in the Lone Star State this week for the Panthers, who lost 91-80 at Baylor Monday and fell 70-57 at UTRGV Wednesday.
Â
Gerard Andrus scored a game-high 18 points and added eight rebounds and two steals for the Panthers (1-2).
Taishaun Johnson scored points10. Devante Patterson scored four points with a game-high 11 rebounds.
It was a cold-shooting night for the Prairie View A&M, which shot just over 31 percent from the field (22-70).
Â
"Very little went right for us," said PVAMU head coach
Byron Smith. "I thought we competed, but it was hard to get shots to fall, and you're going to have nights like that. However, we didn't pack it in. We still played hard. We were aggressive, but just an off night for us. We just have pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and get ready for the next one."
Â
Lamar has dropped two straight after a season-opening home win over Huston-Tillotson (79-59) with losses at Georgia Tech (88-69) and East Carolina in overtime (84-78). Josh Nzeakor leads three players who have played in every game averaging in double figures at 15.3 points per game, followed by Nick Garth (14.0), and T.J. Atwood (12.3).
Â
PVAMU last faced Lamar in 2016, a 91-83 Cardinals' road win at PV.
Â
"I like the matchup," Smith said. "They're tough. They're gritty. It'll be a bloodbath and a war. I have a lot of respect for Head Coach Tic Price. He does a great job, and is one of the pillars in college basketball who's had a great career. They'll be prepared. They don't have enormous size, but they play with their heart, not with their height. It's a good matchup in terms of like-size guys on both teams. They're really tough at home. I'm expecting it to be a great game. I think we'll be up for it."
