GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team lost at East Carolina 76-64 Wednesday night.
Devonte Patterson led the Panthers with 16 points and five rebounds, and
Gary Blackston added 11 with a team-high seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
Iwin Ellis also had season highs in points (nine) and rebounds (six).
PVAMU trailed by as many as nine midway through the first half, but battled back to tie the game. A 14-5 run over the final eight plus minutes of the half, capped by a
Tyler Singleton three-pointer, led to a tied game at 31-31 at halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers trailed 45-35 before making another spurt. A Blackston layup sparked a 9-0 run over the next minute. Jumpers by
Darius Williams and Blackston, and a three-point play by Patterson cut the deficit to 45-44 with 12:19 remaining. However, PVAMU would not take the lead in the second half as ECU pulled away down the stretch.
Prairie View A&M will conclude the week with a 3 p.m. game Friday at Georgia Tech, with a live video stream available via pvpanthers.com.
