MURRAY, Ky. – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team lost at Murray State, as the Pacers pulled away 83-67 Saturday night.
Devonte Patterson had his fifth consecutive double-digit scoring game with 18 points, and
Gary Blackston had his seventh double-digit game of the season with 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds to lead PVAMU.
The game featured 16 ties and eight lead changes in first 20+ minutes, as neither team led by double digits in the first half. Prairie View A&M took its largest lead of the game late in the first half. An 8-0 run started by a Blackston three-pointer and ended with pair of Patterson free throws gave the Panthers a 36-30 lead with 2:46 to play until halftime.
However, an 8—0 run by Murray State to end the half gave the Racers a 38-36 halftime lead.
A Patterson basket to begin the second half tied the game at 38-38, but Prairie View A&M was unable to regain the lead.
"Tough game," said PVAMU head coach
Byron Smith. "I thought we had a good first half, but came out in the second have and didn't have the same intensity. We talk about it time and time again about maintaining our momentum through the first half. I thought for a while we came through, but they kind of got going and them made it tough on us."
PVAMU returns to action Tuesday in a 6:30 p.m. game at Louisiana Tech, with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:15 p.m. at pvpanthers.com/live, with a live video stream available via pvpanthers.com.
