ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team lost its final non-conference road game at Winthrop 76-62 Saturday afternoon.
Darius Williams came off the bench to lead the Panthers with 15 points.
Gary Blackston scored 14 points and had a team-high tying seven rebounds, and
Dennis Jones had a season-high 10 points.
Prairie View A&M got off a fast start. After a couple of early ties, a layup by
Iwin Ellis, who had six points and a team-high tying seven rebounds, started a 15-3 run. A total of six different players scored during the run, as Blackston's layup gave the Panthers a 21-9 lead with more than 10 minutes to play until halftime.
The Eagles battled back to regain the lead and after four lead changes in the final three+ minutes, Prairie View A&M scored the final four points to take a 34-32 lead into halftime.
An early second-half run by Winthrop pushed the Panthers' deficit to double digits over the final 12+ minutes.
