Winthrop Rallies Past Panthers

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team lost its final non-conference road game at Winthrop 76-62 Saturday afternoon.

Darius Williams came off the bench to lead the Panthers with 15 points. Gary Blackston scored 14 points and had a team-high tying seven rebounds, and Dennis Jones had a season-high 10 points.

Prairie View A&M got off a fast start. After a couple of early ties, a layup by Iwin Ellis, who had six points and a team-high tying seven rebounds, started a 15-3 run. A total of six different players scored during the run, as Blackston's layup gave the Panthers a 21-9 lead with more than 10 minutes to play until halftime.

The Eagles battled back to regain the lead and after four lead changes in the final three+ minutes, Prairie View A&M scored the final four points to take a 34-32 lead into halftime.

An early second-half run by Winthrop pushed the Panthers' deficit to double digits over the final 12+ minutes.

Prairie View A&M will open its home schedule Wednesday in a 3 p.m. game hosting Huston-Tillotson in the PVAMU Rec Center, with a live video stream at pvpanthers.com/live.
