PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -  After being delayed due to rain last weekend, the 2018 Prairie View A&M softball team will open the season at the UTSA Classic, hosted by the University of Texas San Antonio this weekend, Feb 16-18.
 
Prairie View closed their 2017 campaign as one of their best seasons since 2011.  The team finished with an overall record of 20-28 and was 11-7 in conference play finishing the season tied for fifth.
 
Coach Vernon Bland was named 2017 SWAC Softball Coach of the Year along with starting pitcher Ashley Higgins being named to the All-Tournament Team.  The Lady Panthers also had six ladies to be named to the All-Conference 1^st and 2^nd teams. 
 
The first pitch for the Lady Panthers will be on Friday, Feb. 16, when they face Missouri State at 9 a.m. and Kansas starting at 2 p.m.  On Saturday PVAMU will face Lamar for a 9 a.m. matchup and later in evening they will play host team UTSA at 4:30.
 
The games will conclude on Sunday, when the Lady Panthers play UTSA in their final matchup of the weekend.
