The Prairie View A&M University women's basketball team was victorious Saturday, defeating UAPB 89-72 in SWAC action on Saturday.
Shala Dobbins led all scorers with 40 points on 40 percent shooting from the floor 95 percent from the charity stripe.
Dominique Newman tallied 17 points in 36 minutes of action, while
Talisha Presley added 15 points, four assists and three rebounds.

The Panthers had a slow start on the offensive end of the floor, shooting a meager 11 percent from the floor during the first quarter and 20 percent from beyond the three point line. PVAMU locked in defensively forcing UAPB to turn the ball over eight times. The Panthers took an 11-9 advantage with 1:49 remaining in the first quarter. As the opening 10 minutes came to a close, the game was tied at 11-11.

The squads traded baskets to begin the second quarter, the Panthers would take a one point lead on a converted jumper from
Dominique Newman with 6:29 remaining. The Lady Golden Lions and the Lady Panthers continued to battle during the remainder of the half, with seven ties and eight lead changes during the second quarter. A Newman three pointer with just four seconds remaining in the half gave the Purple and Gold a 38-36 halftime lead.

The game remained a nip and tuck affair during the opening minutes of the third quarter. PVAMU took a 45-44 advantage on a Dobbins layup with 7:33 left in the period. The Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Golden Lions 20-9 to finish the quarter. The run was keyed by buckets from Newman, Dobbins, and
Alexis Robinson. At the end of the third quarter Prairie View A&M University led 65-53.

Prairie View remained in control throughout the final 10 minutes of action, and continued to get strong play from Dobbins, Newman, and Presley on both ends of the floor. UAPB was unable to cut the lead to less than seven as the contest came to a close.

The Lady Panthers return to action on Monday in Itta Bena, Miss. to take on Mississippi Valley with tip off set for 5:30 pm.
