CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Prairie View A&M softball team split a pair of mid-week games on Wednesday, as they won the first game 5-1, falling in game two 8-0 to host team Texas A&M Corpus Christi at Chapman Field.
Game 1
PVAMU 5, TAMCC 1
The Lady Panthers jumped out on top of the Islanders 3-0 in the first inning of the opener when
Shelby Williams singled to third base. The lightening S. Williams stole second as
Destinee Williams was taking her turn at bat. D. Williams singled to left field scoring S. Williams. Kylar Ward-Flower homered to left field for a 3-0 lead.
After four scoreless innings the Lady Panthers tacked on two more in the top of the sixth after D. Williams struck again this time, sending a triple to right field.
Kelsey Coronado singled through the left side to send D. Williams across the plate. After a base runner switch, with Coronado and
Brianna Grays coming to replace her on first base.
Alyssa Garcia doubled to left field scoring Grays before the frame ended.
Game 2
TAMCC 8, PVAMU 0
The second game started slow with neither team scoring until the second inning with the Islanders scoring two runs. TAMCC also scored again in the third (3) and fifth (3) innings allowing the Lady Panthers only two hits.
Kylar Ward Flowers singled through the left side as she was stranded on first owning the Lady Panthers first hit. There was a little light in the fourth inning as S. Williams had a bunt single, before PVAMU retired their side of the ball ending the game in five innings.
Prairie View A&M will return to action when they play in the North Texas Tournament this weekend in Denton, Texas. They will face Creighton on Friday for an 11 a.m. first pitch.
