PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - The Prairie View A&M softball team will host SWAC contenders Alabama State for a three game series for the friends and family weekend, beginning Friday, March 23 with a 3 p.m. first pitch at the PVAMU Softball Field.

The Lady Panthers will enter the contest 4-14 overall, with a 2-1 record in conference play. PVAMU has been off fora week after playing conference foe Alabama A&M last weekend. The Lady Panthers took two games out of three. On Friday PV fell 8-5 to the Lady Bulldogs, before posting a 11-1 and 12-0 wins in doubleheader action on Saturday at the Bulldog Field.
"Alabama State is basically a new team, said head PVAMU softball coach
Vernon Bland. "I am not sure what to expect, but we will have to wait and see. This team (speaking about PVAMU) has come a long way and we just want our fans to come out and support us with a big weekend like this."
The Lady Panthers a spear headed in hitting by
Kelsey Coronado, who is batting .391per game. Although Destinee William is not hitting above a .300 she is hitting right at a .256 after 43 at bats, 12runs, 11 hits, one HR and 11 RBI on the season.
On the mound leading the Lady Panthers is
Vannessa Castro, who has a 5.48 era, with a 2-6 record after 10 appearances. She has one shut out, 18 strike outs and have only allowed five homeruns.
Alabama State has a 9-20 overall record and are 1-2 in conference play. The Lady Hornets fell to 13
th –ranked Auburn 22-0 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening. Prior to this ASU dropped two of their three conference games to Southern at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex in Montgomery, Ala.
In Friday's matchup against Southern the Lady Hornets defeated the Jags 6-2 and then falling on Saturday 12-10 and 7-4. Taylor Rosser is leading ASU in batting averaging .346 after 26 at bats, nine runs, nine hits, three home runs and 10 RBI. Charlene Castro is leading Alabama State in hits with 23 she also has 15 RBI on the season.
