NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Prairie View A&M softball team dropped a 9-2 mid-week match up against Stephen F. Austin, Wednesday afternoon at the SFA Softball Field.
The Lady Jacks lined nine hits, limiting the Lady Panthers to just four.
Laurisa Hernandez was 2-3 on the day, while both
Alyssa Garcia and
Day'Zjah Pennywell earned a hit a piece.
Shelby Williams opened the frame on a walk. Hernandez reached base on a Ladyjack miscue, allowing Williams to score on two outs putting the Lady Panthers on board first, taking a 1-0 lead.
However, Stephen F. Austin responded in their half of the frame scoring two runs to take a 2-1 lead. The Lady Panthers possessed a defensive stop in the bottom of the second not allowing another score.
Pennywell singled to the shortstop in the top half of the second to earn her hit.
Daneisha Hinton grabbed a walk later scoring to knot the game 2-2 in the top of the third, after Hernandez doubled to right center field for her fifth RBI of the season.
The Lady Panthers allowed a run in the bottom half of the Ladyjacks up at bat to break the tie. SFA scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-2 lead.
PVAMU couldn't find a spark at the top of the fifth, but SFA picked up their momentum scoring another run. Hernandez singled down the left field line to earn her second hit, but the opportunity just didn't work in the favor of the Lady Panthers.
From that point the Lady Panthers fell behind as the Ladyjacks scored a final time in the sixth inning to secure the win.
Prairie View A&M will return to action, when they face the Ladyjacks at the PVAMU Softball Field for a mid-week contest on Wednesday, March 14 for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
