Drury Throws No Hitter As the Lady Panthers Split Doubleheader With TAMCC

 
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M softball team split a double header Tuesday afternoon with Texas A&M Corpus Christi, winning 1-0 in game one and dropping game two 11-4.
 
 
Game one
PV 1, TAMCC 0
 
In game one the Lady Panthers managed just one run which came in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kelsey Coronado singled into centerfield, allowing pinch runner Cameron Lavergne to score the game winning run. Sophomore Taylor Drury pitched a complete game no hitter for the Purple and Gold. The San Antonio native struck out six batters on 83 pitches to get her first win of the season.
 
 
Game two
TAMCC 11, PV 4
 
Texas A&M- Corpus Christi got on the board first scoring one run on one hit to make the score 1-0 in the top of the second inning.  The Islanders added two more runs in the third to make the score 3-0.
 
The Lady Panthers responded in the bottom of the third with one run on two hits. Keona Hunter had an infield single and scored in the following at bat as Lavergne doubled down the right field line to make the score 3-1 at the conclusion of the third.
 
The Islanders added a pair of runs in the fourth, but PV stayed in striking distance registering one run as Daneisha Hinton hit a homerun to open the bottom of the fourth inning, trailing 5-2 to end the frame.
 
 
Texas A&M Corpus Christi scored two more runs in the fifth, but the Purple and Gold again showed resilience, battling to keep the game close, scoring two runs on a pair of hits. Hunter walked on four pitches, and advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Lavergne. Coronado singled into left field, allowing Hunter to score from second base. A few at bats later Hinton singled into right field, and Coronado scored to make the score 7-4 going into the sixth inning.
 
The Islanders would score four more runs in the final two innings and the Lady Panthers were unable to keep pace, dropping the second game in Tuesday's doubleheader 11-4.
 
The Lady Panthers return to action this weekend to take on University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff with the opening game of a three game series beginning on Friday April 20th at noon.
