PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M University baseball team fell to Texas Southern 18-11, Friday afternoon at Tankersley Field in SWAC action.
The Tigers started off scoring four runs in the top half of their at bats to take a 4-0 lead. Texas Southern was able to keep PVAMU off the scoreboard in the bottom of the first frame, while they continued their scoring frenzy in the top of the second adding three runs on three hits.
The Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the second frame as three Panthers walked in consecutive at bats.
Demarie Smith reached base on an error, which allowed
Andrew Garcia and
Corbin Jamison to score. To make the score 7-2 after two innings of play.
Texas Southern added seven more runs in the third inning on three hits. PVAMU added runs of their own in their bottom half of the third.
Daniel Lingua walked, and later scored, on a Jamison double to left field.
Tracy Warren singled to left center field, which allowed Jamison to score from second base. At the end of three innings PVAMU trailed 14-4.
The Panthers later added more than half a dozen runs in seventh, eighth, ninth innings but it was not enough, as Texas Southern picked up the win in game one.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow at Tankersley Field, as they continue the three game series against Texas Southern with first pitch scheduled for 1 pm.
