PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M University baseball team split a pair of games in double header action at Tankersley Field on Tuesday, falling to Jarvis Christian in game one 7-5 and earning a 10-3 victory in game two.
Game One
Jarvis 7, PVAMU 5
The Panthers scored one run on three hits in their half of the first inning.
Xavier Jefferson singled to center field advancing to second base with a
Jalyn Baker single to left field. Two at bats later, Jefferson scored following
Calvin Rucker's single to make the score 1-0. PVAMU added one more run in the second on a pair of base hits.
Steven Williams singled up the middle, before advancing on a sacrifice bunt by
Andrew Garcia. Williams advanced to third on a balk and scored on a
Corbin Jamison single to left field. At the end of two innings PVAMU led 2-0.
The Panthers added runs in the third and the fifth innings to make the score 5-0 going into the final two innings. In the sixth and seventh innings Jarvis Christian rallied and scored seven runs to win the first game.
Game two
PVAMU 10, Jarvis 3
PVAMU scored seven runs on four hits in the first inning of the second game. Jefferson homered to lead off the inning for the Panthers.
Daniel Lingua singled and stealing second base in the same segmet. One at bat later, an
Avery Williams single to left center field allowed Lingua to score from second.
Ezekiel Bear advanced to second base, on the next at bat Garcia was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Tyler Gordon walked as
Ezekiel Bear scored from third base.
Kaylor Lewis reached base on a fielder's choice, allowing a pair of Panther base runners to cross home plate.
Demarie Smith singled to center field allowing two more Panthers to score to make the count 7-0 after one inning.
The Panthers added a trio of runs in the following innings, receiving strong performances on the mound from the PVAMU pitching staff, the Panthers earned the win
Prairie View baseball will return to action on Wednesday in San Marcos, Texas to take on Texas State University, with the first pitch scheduled for 6 pm.
