The Prairie View A&M baseball team split a Tuesday doubleheader against Huston-Tillotson, winning game one 5-3 before falling in the nightcap 11-9 at Tankersley Field.
PVAMU Baseball returns to action Wednesday in a 3 p.m. home game vs. Abilene Christian.
Game 1 - Panthers 5, Huston-Tillotson 3: A four-run fifth for the Panthers was the difference in the opener.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth,
Corbin Jamison, who homered in the third, singled to lead off the inning and scored on a double by
Jalyn Baker. After
Daniel Lingua reached on catcher's interference,
Ezekiel Bear singled and advanced to third on an error as Baker and Lingua scored. With one out,
Andrew Garcia singled to right scoring Bear for the final margin.
Jamison and Baker each had two hits and an RBI for the Panthers.
Jerson Hardit (1-1) got the win in relief, pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, striking out three and walking none.
Game 2 - Huston-Tillotson 11, Panthers 9: Bear had three hits, including a two-run homer and four RBI, while Lingua and
Steven Williams each had two hits in the wild nightcap in which there was at least one scored in every inning.
Trailing 6-3 in the fifth, Prairie View A&M scored four runs all with two outs to regain the lead. With one out, Jamison singled to left field and Baker walked. With two outs, Bear singled to center to score Jamison. A wild pitch scored Baker as Bear advanced to second. Williams then singled to left to score Bear to tie the score at 6-6. Garcia's single to right center scored Williams to give PVAMU a 7-6 lead.
Huston-Tillotson scored three in the sixth to regain the lead for good. After the Panthers scored one in the sixth to cut the deficit to 9-8, the Rams scored three in the top of the seventh to make it 11-8. PVAMU added a run in the home seventh on a bases loaded walk to
Xavier Jefferson, but a double play to end the game ended the threat.
