PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Following a bit of a mid-season break, the Prairie View A&M softball team will be back in action on the road for a SWAC Western Division series versus Southern Friday and Saturday in Baton Rouge, La. at the Louisiana Patriots Park.
PVAMU and SU will kick off the weekend with a single game at noon on Friday, before playing a doubleheader on Saturday with the same start time.
The Lady Panthers are 5-16 overall and 3-3 in conference play, and last played on Saturday, March 24, when they split a double-header contest against Alabama State. The Lady Hornets claimed a 6-5 win in the opening game, before PVAMU closed the evening contest with an 11-6 victory.
Kelsey Coronado is leading the team hitting .405, third-best in the conference. Coronado has scored five runs, 14 hits, one homer and batted in three.
The Lady Panthers have three other players hitting above .300.
Day'Zjah Pennywell is hitting .324 with six runs, 11 hits, one home run and seven batted in. Her teammate, SWAC preseason second team first baseman

Alyssa Garcia is batting .300, with five runs, 15 hits, 13 RBI and two home runs on the season.
SU dropped a 7-4 non-conference game to Nicholls State earlier in the week. Southern has an 11-13 overall record and is third in the Western Division with a 5-5 record. The Jaguars are led by Kiara Suttles, who is hitting .391, 10
th in the SWAC.
