PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M University soccer team will travel a short distance to Houston to face the University of Houston and then over to Nicholls for a pair of non-conference match-ups.
PVAMU will visit the great city of Houston to take on the U of H at the Carl Lewis Complex on Friday at 7 p.m. This will be only the second meeting between the two teams, as the Cougars holds the 1-0 series record over the Lady Panthers. U of H enters the weekend with an 0-2 record.
"I feel very excited," said new PVAMU head coach
Sonia Curvelo. "I know that the players are as prepared as they can be going into the University of Houston game. I am just excited to see the outcome and how well we have taken steps that we have worked on this week. Overall the players have such a positive outlook and I think it has allowed them to really grow a lot within this week. I've seen tremendous growth within this team. It can only get better from here."
Fans can follow the action live by going to www.pvpanthers.com website and click on the links, for both games this weekend.
On Sunday the Lady Panthers will head to Thibodaux, La., to face off against Nicholls. The Colonels have a game to play before PVAMU, but have played two games already suffering losses in both contests holding a 0-2 record thus far this season.
"I have never coached against the University of Houston team, but I am familiar with Nicholls," Curvelo said. "There has also been a coaching change there, so the philosophy may have changed since I last coached against Nicholls. I know they are rebuilding their program as well. I feel that taking the concepts of how we do on Friday's game will help us to prepare into Sunday's game. The Houston game will be another game under our belt as well. It is another road game which is always difficult to play away from home, but you have to get results from home as well as on the road. This is how we get in order to build a championship team."
With a new coach at the helm the Lady Panthers have been very responsive and hitting the field hard thus far this season.
"I am just going to be looking at the mindset of how they compete on Friday and be able to turn around and go on the road and compete on Sunday," Curvelo said. "At this point we are as prepared as we can possible be. I am very inspired by the way the players of taken it upon themselves and being so coachable. They are so open to learning. That's the best piece that I can ever want from each player. So I have been very happy and pleased with their attitudes and their training also. They have been working extremely hard so I am hoping we get the results that we have worked so hard for, this last week and a half. I'm just ready to see how they do."
