PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Despite some solid performances, the Prairie View A&M volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to the visiting Houston Baptist Huskies Tuesday night at the PVAMU Recreation Center.
"Although we won one set, we didn't play to our full potential," said PVAMU head volleyball coach
TaCho Tyler. "At this point, we need more all-around effort, and I feel like we aren't getting it when and where we need to. We aren't consistent as far as hitting. The passing and setting are fine. We just aren't being aggressive when it comes to hitting."
In a hotly contested match the Lady Panthers fell just short 25-20 in the opening set, but would not go quietly as they pushed the Huskies to the limit in the middle sets.
The second set prove more competitive than the first set as both teams found themselves knotted up six times during the course of the set. Junior transfer
Jaylan Thomas again led the Lady Panthers on the offensive charge, tallying six of her 13 total kills in the second set, while defensive specialist senior
Christen Augustine notched six of her 23 digs of the match. Thomas also posted 12 digs to notch her first double-double of the season.
The momentum carried over into the third set, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Panthers fell 25-16 after seven ties and four lead changes.
The Huskies took set four 25-18 to wrap up the match.
Junior
Erica Jimenez finished the match with a season high of 23 assists, while
Alyssa Cataldo tallied 15. Cetara Carter had 12 kills also in the match.
The Prairie View A&M volleyball team will return to play this Friday, September 7 at the UNO Invitational. The first match is set for 11:30 a.m. against the Morgan State Bears. They will return to action later in the evening when they face host team UNO at 7 p.m.
