NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Prairie View A&M volleyball team battled through a tough first day at the University of New Orleans Invitational Friday, dropping back–to-back 3-0 losses to Morgan State and host team UNO in the evening session.
"The game against Morgan State was a game that our passing and setting was there," said PVAMU head coach
TaCho Tyler. "Our hitting was just not there, and it's hard to win a match when that happens."
In the morning match to Morgan State the Lady Panthers fell 25-15, 25-21, 25-16.
Jaylan Thomas led PVAMU with 12 kills and 10 digs posting her second double-double of the season. Christine Augustine also had 10 digs to lead the back line for the Lady Panthers.
PVAMU's assignment didn't get any easier in the evening segment, facing host team UNO in the final match of the day.
UNO defeated the Lady Panthers in three sets, 25-17, 25-17, 25-14.
"I feel like the blocking got better against UNO," Tyler said. "Defensively we were sound, but we just couldn't put a ball away when we really, really needed it."
Thomas again led the attack with 11 kills, while
Erica Jimenez dished out 14 assists.
Prairie View A&M will return to action on Saturday in their final match of the tournament at 3 p.m. against Bethune-Cookman.
