Men's Basketball To Open Home Schedule Against Huston-Tillotson

The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team will play its home opener Wednesday in a 3 p.m. game against Huston-Tillotson in the PVAMU Rec Center.

Prairie View A&M played its final non-conference road game this past Saturday, leading in the first half before falling at Winthrop 76-62. Darius Williams came off the bench to lead the Panthers with 15 points. Gary Blackston scored 14 points and had a team-high tying seven rebounds, and Dennis Jones had a season-high 10 points. The Panthers made a season-high 18 steals in the contest, led by Williams with six and Jones with five.
 
Blackston continues to rank second in the SWAC in scoring (16.7 ppg), and is fifth in rebounds (6.7/gm), fourth in field goal percentage (40.6%), and tied for second in steals (1.6/gm.)
 
Huston-Tillotson of the Red River Conference of the NAIA is 6-3 overall and the only unbeaten team in league play.  The Rams have four players averaging in double figures, led by Christian Wilson (21.8 ppg). Keith Broome (17.5 ppg), Alexandre Doche (17.2) and Courtney Julien (16.8) complete the list. Huston-Tillotson likes to play uptempo, as they average nearly 90 points per game, and are averaging nearly 98 points per game in conference play.
 
All 13 of PVAMU's non-conference opponents had a .500 record of better to end December (Santa Clara 8-6, Baylor 8-4, UTRGV 8-7, Lamar 7-6, UNC Greensboro 13-2, East Carolina 7-5, Georgia Tech 7-5, Murray St. 9-2, La. Tech 11-3, Louisiana 9-4, Seattle 12-3, Winthrop 8-4, Huston-Tillotson 6-3). The combined record of the Panthers' opponents including Huston-Tillotson is 113-54 (.677).
