PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -  It's that time of the year when the rumbling noise from the court during warm-up stems from the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team, as they prepare for the battle on The Hill.

The Panthers will host Texas Southern at the newly renovated William J. Nicks Building (Babydome) for white out night on Saturday, Jan. 12 for a 3 p.m. tip.

It's a white out affair as the fans are asked to wear white for Saturday's contest.  The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free t-shirt.

The game will also be video streamed at pvpanthers.com/women, with live stats available at pvpanthers.com.

"Although this is my first rivalry game against Texas Southern, having been in the conference for 18 years I am very familiar with the rivalry," said PVAMU head women's basketball coach Sandy Pugh.  "I've seen this game from a far, and I know how it gets.  The crowd is amazing and I am just excited about being a part of the game.  The kids are excited as well.  I think it's going to be a great game."

The Panthers won both meetings against TSU last season, a 61-56 win at TSU, and a 65-48 at the Baby Dome.

Texas Southern has a 4-10 overall record and are 0-2 in conference play after dropping two nail biters, during the SWAC opening weekend to both Alcorn State (53-32) and Southern (63-61).

PVAMU will enter Saturday's contest 2-0 in league play, edging Southern 55-54 in Baton Rouge before taking an 82-61 game at Alcorn.  Shala Dobbins was one short of a field goal from being perfect from the field shooting 10-11 and scoring a team high of 27 pts, to include a career high of eight rebounds in the contest against Alcorn. La'Neique Nealey added in 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

"Both the teams (women's and men's) are 2-0 so we are excited," Pugh said.  "We want the fans to come out to support us.  We still have some growing to do as a unit, but I think we are ready.  Texas Southern is a good team we just have to continue to do what we need to do offensively and defensively to get the win."

Dobbins leads the Panthers in scoring with 12.8 points per game.  Senior Artavia Ford is second on the team in points, averaging 10.7 per game, and also ranks first on the team in blocked shots with 20 (1.6 per game).  Senior Erin Willis, the leader in assists (33), is averaging 2.7 assists per game.  Junior Dominique Newman, the team leader in steals (23), is scoring 8.8 points per game.
