LORMAN, Miss. – The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team led from start to finish for the third straight game in a 57-54 win at Alcorn Monday night.
The Panthers (4-11, 2-0 SWAC) will open a three-game homestand Saturday hosting Texas Southern in the White Out Game as part of a doubleheader with the women. Action begins at 3 p.m. in the William J. Nicks Building, with the first 500 fans in attendance receiving a free t-shirt. Fans can also watch live at pvpanthers.com/live.
Darius Williams came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points, with
Devonte Patterson adding 15.
The Panthers got off to a fast start in shooting 50 percent from the field and led by as many as 12 in the first half. Alcorn (4-10, 0-2) cut the PVAMU lead to four at 38-34 at halftime.
The second half became a defensive slugfest, as both teams struggled to score. Prairie View A&M made only six of 13 free throws in the second half, but never lost the lead. Patterson's free throw with three seconds remaining provided the final margin as the Panthers' defense did not allow a half-court shot as the buzzer sounded.
