Women's Basketball Sweeps Opening SWAC Weekend Play In Win Against Alcorn Monday

LORMAN, Miss. – The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team rolled passed Alcorn State 82-61 to finish out the opening of SWAC play 2-0 on Monday in Lorman, Miss.
 
This is the first time since the 2009-10 season and the first on the road since 2008-09.
 
PVAMU came out strong in the first quarter, leading 18-3 at the 5:07 mark, after a made three point shot from freshman guard Keaynna Tolbert. They went into the second quarter with a 30-13 advantage.
 
The team continued their fast play in the second quarter as they began on a 6-0 run, extending their lead to 36-13 midway through the second quarter. PVAMU led by as many as 28 points, leading 46-18, after a made three point shot from senior guard Shala Dobbins with 3:20 left in the half.
 
The Lady Panthers continued their lead at 48-25 going into halftime. Dobbins led the team in scoring with 17 points on a perfect 7-7 shots.
 
PVAMU controlled most of the third quarter with their offensive intensity and were up 69-40 with 1:47 left in the period after a made layup by senior forward La'Neique Nealey. They went into the fourth quarter leading 71-42.
 
The team managed as much as a 29 point lead throughout the fourth quarter before eventually walking away with the 82-61 victory.
 
The Lady Panthers will return home on Saturday, Jan. 12 to face Texas Southern University in the Baby Dome at 3 P.M.
