BOX SCORE MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Prairie View A&M soccer team won its fourth-straight match, prevailing 2-1 over Alabama State in a Southwestern Athletic Conference match Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Lady Panthers (7-7, 6-1 SWAC) took over sole possession of second place in the current league standings.  This is the first time in the history of the program that the Lady Panthers soccer team has gone 6-1 in SWAC play.

A stalemate early on, Prairie View A&M eventually broke through with its pressure on the net as the Lady Panthers struck first thanks to junior midfielder Ashley Chala, who rebounded her own try – which was saved by Alabama State goalie Hrafnhildur Hjaltalin – back into net at the 37th minute.

A fortuitous bounce once again benefited the Lady Panthers in the second half, as junior forward Jojo Bernal regathered a try that went off the crossbar and put it home at the 62nd minute.

The Lady Hornets eventually found the net at the 82nd minute thanks to a McKenna Lupori – halting the Lady Panthers' shutout streak at 351 consecutive minutes – but the Lady Panthers dominated possession down the stretch, narrowly missing goals on three chances late.

Prairie View A&M outshot the Lady Hornets (5-12, 4-4 SWAC) 17-9, including an 11-7 edge in attempts on net. The Lady Panthers attempted five corner kicks to Alabama State's four.

Sophomore goalkeeper Quinn Josiah made six saves in the victory.
