Surging Lady Panthers Close Out Regular Season vs. Arch-Rival TSU for Blackout Night

10/31/2019 10:34:00 AM

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas  - The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers can make some history this Friday when they welcome arch-rival Texas Southern to the Hill for the teams' final Southwestern Athletic Conference match of the regular season.

First touch is set for 7 p.m. at the PVAMU Soccer Complex. For Prairie View A&M (9-7, 8-1 SWAC), a win would not only give the team its first overall double-digit win season since 2014, but it would also set a new program record for the best win-loss record in conference play.

The Lady Panthers are playing their best as the 2019 SWAC Soccer Tournament looms, having won six straight matches -- all via shutout -- while securing the No. 2 seed in tournament play.

Senior forward Diana Neff -- who has scored five goals in Prairie View's past five outings -- leads the Lady Panthers with eight goals on the season, a figure that's tied for second-most in the SWAC. Junior midfielder Ashley Chala has also been a productive offensive weapon with five goals and an assist this year. Junior forward Jojo Bernal has found the net four times this season.

Goalie sophomore Quinn Josiah looks to continue an all-conference level of play, as she has stopped 84.1 percent of shots faced while posting five shutouts this year.

Scouting the Competition:
- Texas Southern (6-9-1, 5-3-1 SWAC) comes into Friday's contest on the heels of a 2-0 win versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Lady Tigers, led by first-year coach Lindsay Vera, have typically been a thorn in the Panthers' side over recent years. Dating back to 2015, Prairie View A&M is just 1-4-1 against its crosstown rival, including a pair of setbacks in tournament play.

- Desiree Harte and Jade Maclean are tied for the team lead in points with seven each -- both have scored three goals and dished out one assist. In goal, the Tigers are likely to trot out Salma Ghazal and Oriana Palacios in a committee approach. The duo has been sharp against league opponents, having allowed a combined six goals against SWAC teams.
