PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M soccer team heads east to take on defending conference tournament champion Howard in a potentially pivotal Southwestern Athletic Conference match.
First touch is set for 11 a.m. on Oct. 6 in Birmingham.
The Lady Panthers (3-6, 2-0 SWAC) head into the contest having found its offense following wins over Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn State. Senior forward Diana Neff led the way, scoring three goals on her way to SWAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Sophomore goalkeeper Quinn Josiah earned SWAC Co-Goalkeeper of the Week after orchestrating a pair of shutouts over the Devilettes and the Lady Braves.
Recent history suggests that Sunday's contest will be a tight one, as the sides have been evenly matches as of late. The last two meetings have resulted in ties between the teams, and the last win in the head-to-head series for either side came on the road.
Scouting the Competition:
- Howard (6-2, 3-0 SWAC) boasts what is statistically the top defense in the league, having allowed just six goals on the season. Leading the way there is goalie Alayah Hightower – who shared Co-Goalkeeper of the Week honors with Josiah after a pair of shutout wins over Jackson State and Southern – and sophomore Kendall Macauly, a 2019 All-SWAC Preseason First Team selection who earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
- Thalia Boucher and Arianna Morgan lead the team with three goals scored each. Morgan has also dealt a pair of assists, and leads the SWAC in points per match (1.14). Morgan, Boucher and Bayley Carmichael give Howard three players ranked in the SWAC's top 10 for points per match.
- The contest features the league's top performing goalkeepers in Hightower and Josiah, who rank 1-2 in save percentage, goals against average and shutouts.
