Soccer Falls to Howard Sunday

HOOVER, Ala. – The Prairie View A&M soccer team fell 3-0 to Howard Sunday afternoon during a Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup at the Hoover Met Complex.

Sophomore Quinn Josiah fended off a pair of Bison tries early on, the Lady Panthers (3-7, 2-1 SWAC) threatened in the 30th minute, as the team got two looks on net. However, shots by junior forwards Jojo Bernal and Sarah Batiste were saved by Howard's Alayah Hightower.

Another shot by Bernal was blocked, as the sides went into intermission tied 0-0.

After back-to-back attempts by senior forward Diana Neff were turned away by Hightower during the 47thminute, the Lady Panthers lost their handle on matters midway through the second half, as Kenya Saunders scored to put Howard (6-3, 3-0 SWAC) ahead at the 65th minute.

The Lady Panthers continued to pressure Hightower and the Bison defense, but weren't able to break through as a pair of off-target tries on net sandwiched a shot by senior midfielder Alex Fields that was saved by Hightower.

Howard pulled away late as the Bison scored on a Elexa Pierson breakaway in the 80th minute, and Saunders found Aleeyah Sawyer for a header goal in the 83rd minute.

PVAMU out shot Howard 14-12, with the Bison holding an 8-6 edge in shots on goal. Josiah made five saves, and the Lady Panthers managed six corner kicks to Howard's five.
