MOBILE, Ala. — The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team fell 64-52 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to conclude the Preseason WNIT Friday evening.

Senior Bernesha Peters led the Panthers with 17 points – 12 in the first half – five steals and three assists. Grad transfer Tatyana Perez, seniors Ke'Asia Williams and Dominique Newman, and freshman Kennedy Paul all posted six points each.

Perez buried a three to open up scoring for the  Panthers in the first quarter but the Islanders responded with a 10-2 run. Newman connected from beyond the arc and brought Prairie View A&M within a bucket, but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi managed to extend its lead to eight heading into the second quarter.

After struggling in the first two minutes of the second period, Williams led a 7-4 Prairie View A&M run to bring the Panthers within 28-19. A 6-0 Lady Panther run gave the team their second lead of the game at 37-36 with just over six minutes remaining in the third quarter. The score was tied at 37-37, before the Islanders pulled ahead with an 8-0 spurt regained a 45-37 lead. Back-to-back buckets from Newman and freshman Jadah Martin brought the team back within three, but a late jumper left the Panthers facing a five-point deficit

The Panthers came out strong in the fourth quarter, using an 8-0 run to take a 50-47 lead, but the Islanders pulled ahead for good with a 12-0 run.
