Women's Basketball Falls at Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - A slow start hampered the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team as it dropped an 83-48 contest at Arizona Wednesday afternoon at McKale Center.

Grad transfer guard Tatyana Perez led the Panthers (1-4) with 12 points and four assists. Freshman forward Kennedi Heard notched a career-best nine points and three steals to go with five rebounds.

The Panthers struggled from the field, shooting 29.5 percent (18-of-61) from the floor, while the Wildcats posted a 54.2 percent (32-of-59) shooting clip.

Prairie View A&M fell behind early on as Arizona began the game on a 15-0 run. Though the Panthers responded with a 13-5 run to pull within seven early in the second quarter, the Panthers missed 11 of their next 15 shots, a cold snap during which Arizona pushed its lead to 20, a deficit that was ultimately insurmountable.

Cate Reese led Arizona with 20 points along with 10 rebounds, while Aari McDonald was an rebound shy of a triple-double, scoring 15 points with 14 assists, nine boards and four steals.
